The Photonics Research Group is part of the Department of Information Technology (INTEC) of the University of Ghent. Its mission is to work on innovative concepts for photoniccomponents and compact integration of complex photonic functions. Most of the group's activities focus on polymer-based microoptics and waveguide-based semiconductor components, such as laser diodes and optical amplifiers. The applications of the integrated components under study range from telecom and datacom to sensors and biosensors. The group's infrastructure includes clean room facilities for in-house fabrication of components as well as a variety of CAD tools and measurement labs. The group is associated with IMEC.
